Baltimore Oriole

Icterus galbula

 

Distinguishing Marks:

  • Males: Black head, back, wings and tail.

  • Females: Brown-gray underbelly. Two wingbars.

The Baltimore Oriole can be found in open woodland, suburban backyards and prefers areas with shade trees.

 

Call: Melodious Piping call high in the trees.

 


 

 

 

 

Red-eyed Vireo

Vireo olivaceus

 

Distinguishing Marks:

  • Sexes are similar having a broad white eye stripe bordered with a dark line. Grayish crown and olive green back.

  • Red eyes on adults.

 

Woodland species eating mostly insects and some fruits. The nest is  delicate and cup-like, made from plant materials and lichens.

 

 

Song sounds like: See me. Here I am. Over Here
