Canada Goose

Branta canadensis

 

Distinguishing Marks:

  • Large water bird with black head, long, black neck and white chin strap.

  • Brown back and white undertail.

The Canada Goose has a diet mainly of plant matter and invertebrates. It can be found from wetlands to open bodies of water and are widely distributed around the United States.

 

 


 

 

 

 

Wood Duck

Aix sponsa

 

Distinguishing Marks:

  • Male: White neck patch and red bill.

  • Female:White teardrop-shaped patch around eye

  • Red eye.

The Wood Duck is found in coves in wetlands and open water.  It eats mostly seeds, fruit and plant matter.
